As a QuickBooks accounting software user, you may encounter QuickBooks error 6000 832 when you are trying to open your QB company file. error -6000, -832 error suddenly pops up on the screen with an error message. The error message reads that the QuickBooks user is unable to open the company file.

When does QuickBooks Error 6000 832 occur?

A QuickBooks user usually encounters QuickBooks Error 6000 832 due to some problem with the network setup. QuickBooks error 6000 832 may occur when –

  • QuickBooks user is trying to convert company file to its latest version over a network.
  • Missing QuickBooks installation files.
  • Insufficient permissions for a network server.
  • Firewall or antivirus software is blocking QuickBooks files.
  • Damaged QuickBooks company file or shared folder.
  • More than one workstation is trying to host the company file.
  • Windows version being used is either non-U.S. or non-Canadian, or Windows’ regional language setting is set to other than the English language.
  • File extension may be.qbm or .qbw.adr.

Steps to Fix QuickBooks Error 6000 832

QuickBooks error 6000 832 occurs when a QuickBooks user is opening the file in the network setting, which means that the QB company file is not on the user’s PC but on the server or another computer. Different solutions are available to fix the 6000 832 error. Before trying the solutions given below, make your QuickBooks Desktop is up to date, and install and run the QuickBooks File Doctor tool. If QuickBooks error 6000 832 still appears, try the following solutions in the order given below –

#1. Check whether all workstations have their hosting mode turned off

QuickBooks recommends that only one PC/Server should host the QB company files. For others, hosting mode should be off. Press F2 to open up a window containing information about the product.  Look for the local server information. Ensure that hosting mode is off for all user workstations that are not hosting the company files. After applying this solution, check for QuickBooks error -6000, -832 error.

#2. Rename certain files, restart QuickBooks Database Server Manager(QBDBSM) and rescan

QuickBooks accounting software uses the .ND and .TLG configuration files in a network or multi-user environment to access a company file. A corrupted or damaged .NDor .TLG file can lead to QuickBooks error 6000 832. Renaming .ND and .TLG configuration files do not lead to loss of QB data. When a QuickBooks accounting software user rescan using the Quickbooks Database Server Manager (QBDBSM) and when the user opens the QB company file, the .ND and .TLG configuration files are automatically recreated.

Follow these steps –

  1. First of all, open the folder where your QB company file is located.
  2. Now, look for the files that have the same file name as the name your company file, but have .ND and .TLG as file extensions.
  3. Right-click.ND file, from the list that appears, select rename.
  4. Type the word OLD at the end the file name and press the enter button. So, your new file name would be company file.qbw.nd.OLD.
  5. Now, right-click.TLG file, from the list that appears, select rename.
  6. Type the word OLD at the end the file name and press the enter button.

The aim of the QuickBooks Database Server Manager (QBDBSM) is to host QB company files. Once you are done with renaming the .ND and .TLG files, it is best to restart the Database Server Manager, and then rescan the QuickBooks files.

  1. Open Start and then go to All Programs.
  2. Look for QuickBooks.
  3. Then open QBDBSM.
  4. Now, choose the tab – Scan folders.
  5. If in case no folders are present, choose Add folder.
  6. If folders are present, choose the folder with the files.
  7. Click on the Scan button.
  8. Confirm that the QB company file appears in the bottom box. The heading of the box will state that the QB company files have been found.
  9. Now, again try to open the file.
  10. Again, open your QuickBooks.
  11. Sign in to your company file.

If the QuickBooks error 6000 832 still occurs, proceed to the next solution.

#3. Open a sample company file stored on your PC

Open a sample company files installed on your PC. If in case, the sample company file fails to open and an error appears on the screen, it implies that your QuickBooks installation is damaged and requires repair. Follow these steps –

  1. Go to the No Company Open window.
  2. Choose Open a Sample File.
  3. A list of sample company files will appear. Choose a sample file.
  4. If in case, the selected sample file gets opened, move to the next solution. If QuickBooks error 6000 and 832 code appears, repair your QB installation.

#4. Try to open your QuickBooks Company file locally

By opening the file locally, you can check whether there is some type of issue with the company file’s location. If in case you are able to open the file when it is saved on the desktop, location of your QB company file may be damaged or it exceeded the limitation of the file system path. If after changing the location of the file, you are still not able to open it, it implies that file may be damaged. Follow these steps –

  1. Go to the folder storing company file.
  2. Look for the file having.QBW as an extension.
  3. Now, right-click on the file.
  4. From the list that appears, choose Copy.
  5. Paste it on the desktop.
  6. While pressing the control key, open QuickBooks.
  7. No Company Open window will appear on the screen.
  8. Now, choose Open or restore an existing company.
  9. Browse to your PC’s desktop, look for the copied company file to open it.

#5. End all QuickBooks Processes

Follow these steps –

  1. Log in into the server computer with Admin account.
  2. Press Ctrl key, Shift key and Esc key simultaneously.
  3. Task manager window will appear.
  4. Choose the Users tab.
  5. All users’ processes will appear.
  6. Look for the following QuickBooks processes: QBW32.EXE, qbupdate.exe, and QBDBMgr.exe.
  7. Highlight the above processes.
  8. Choose End Task.
  9. Now, open your QB company file in multi-user mode.

If you are still getting QuickBooks error 6000 832, proceed to the next solution.

#6. Manually check the folder permissions

Check whether you have appropriate folder permissions required to share company files. If not, manually adjust the permissions. After you have done that, again open your file, if QuickBooks error 6000 832 pops up, proceed to next solution.

#7. Configure antivirus and firewall

Your antivirus and/or firewall software may be blocking access to specific QuickBooks files. If this is the case, then you have to configure ports of your firewall and create an exception for your antivirus program. After making changes to your firewall and antivirus software, check whether Error -6000, -832 is appearing.
