QuickBooks has emerged as a prominent accounting software which has changed bookkeeping and numerous different business exercises. Today, it is being utilized by small to large scale organizations across the globe and is full of multiple advantages.

However, several times some errors come up and disrupt the workflow. Damaged QuickBooks Function is another such issue that can cause unwanted disruptions. QuickBooks Clean Install Tool is a process that completely removes QuickBooks Installation files & folders from the computer.

The Clean Install tool can be Run on QuickBooks Point of Sale as well. This blog will educate you on how to perform QuickBooks Clean Install on QB Point of sale and amend the problem

Consider points before performing the QuickBooks clean install for QuickBooks POS

  • Always keep a backup of the data so that it can be used in future and no data is lost
  • Download file or the CD which can be used to install QuickBooks Point of Sale for desktop
  • The product number and license for clean install QuickBooks should be present
  • Log in the system as windows administrator for following the next steps of installation
  • Make sure the device which you are using can be restarted for completing the installation

Now you know the pre-requisites for this process, let’s learn what the next process is.

Step 1- Uninstall QB Point of Sale

  • First Go on the keyboard and click Windows + E to open the Computer Window
  • Next, click ‘Uninstall’ or change program
  • Now in the programs list, Press ‘Point of Sale’ and press Uninstall
  • Now, follow all the instructions to Uninstall Point of Sale
  • You also need to Uninstall Microsoft .NET Framework ( Point of Sale versions 2010 & 2013 only)
  • Next, right-click ‘Windows Start’ option and press the ‘Control ’
  • Now select Programs and features
  • Now choose Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client profile and press ‘’
  • Once finished, choose Microsoft .NET Framework 4 extended profile and press ‘’
  • Now Navigate to c: \Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework directory & rename folder that says ‘V4.0.XX’.

Step 2- Rename QuickBooks Point of Sale Folders

If you are uninstalling from the server computer (or the computer where the POS data file is locally saved), in that case, copy the Point of Sale data folder and paste it to the Desktop.

  • Navigate to c:\users\public\public documents\intuit\QuickBooks Point of Sale XX
  • Look for the Data Folder
  • Now right-click on the Data folder and click ‘’
  • Now go to desktop and paste
  • Right-click the pasted folder and choose Rename. You can rename the folder as a copy of POS Data MMDDYY.
  • Now rename ‘QBPOSDBSrvUser’ folder and the user login
  • Navigate to c:\users\
  • Search for QBPOSDBSrvUser Folder and right click and choose ‘’
  • Now rename the folder as ‘’
  • Now you can delete QBPOSDBSrvUser windows user
  • Press on Windows start and choose Control Panel
  • Press on User Account control window and press on Continue.
  • Select the ‘QuickBooks POS Database server user’ and press ‘Delete’ account
  • Check and confirm the folder is deleted
  • Reboot your computer

Step 3- Reinstall QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale

  • First download QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale
  • Now go to the location where QB POS was saved when you downloaded it and now double-click on QB POS executable file to run the Point of Sale Installation.
  • Choose ‘Yes to All’ if you are asked to overwrite the existing extracted files
  • Now choose ‘NEXT’ to start the installation
  • Read the software license agreement & select agree to ‘I accept the terms in the license agreement’ and press Next.
  • Now enter your License & the Product numbers and click
  • Now choose the number of users to be used for POS
    • For Single User- Choose ‘Only this computer’ and perform the installation process.
    • For Multiple Users- Choose two or more computers and choose if it is the Server or Client Workstation.
      1. Server Workstation- Server Workstation generates and retains the company data and is the first workstation where QuickBooks POS is installed.
      2. Client Workstation- It is usually the cash register utilized to help customers in regular sales and has access to the program.

Note: In case you need to modify the Installation type of Point of Sale from server to workstation then you need to Uninstall and Reinstall the program again.

  • Now press Install to continue else ‘Back’ if you require to go back and review any of the previous screens.
  • Restart your computer and now Open QuickBooks Desktop POS, to begin with.
  • Once the installation is complete, now Activate and open QB Desktop POS

This completes the Clean Install process. It rectifies QuickBooks Damaged function problem. Follow all the steps and pre-requisites properly to perform the process properly. In case you did not create any backup of the data then it imposes an issue of how to retrieve that info. Follow the below process in that case.

How to Restore your Company File?

Note: In case you could not make a backup then restore the ‘qbpos.db file’ placed in your data folder.

  • First, Open QuickBooks POS for Desktop and make a new company file with the name you require to use and then restore the backup created.
  • Once the file is restored and you recognize it as correct, next is to verify that you close and Re-open the POS without any errors, get connected with Point of Sale machines and then connect with QB Desktop (if applicable).
  • Now register QuickBooks POS for the desktop again

Note: QuickBooks Point of Sale and QB Desktop share few licensing files. You need to confirm that you can open QuickBooks Desktop and then register when asked. Now if you want to remove the Data Folder from the desktop, then you can move it to another folder such as the ‘Public documents/ Shared Documents’ but do not eliminate them.
