Windows 7,8,8.1& 10

  • Firstly, restart the computer after closing all programs that are blocking QuickBooks.
  • Next, backup the ‘Company ’
  • Choose ‘Start’ >>Control Panel. For Windows 8 and 8.1 the users can go to the start menu >> Open search & type Control Panel. Now select Control Panel from the results.

If the error message shows ‘Files in Use.’If the error message  with ‘Files in use’ comes then perform the below steps:

  • Select Ignore (the system has to be rebooted) and click OK. You might have to choose ‘Ignore’ several times,and the repair must continue.
  • If you cannot see any ‘Ignore’ button, then select ‘Close.’
  • Once the repair is complete, then restart the computer.

Solution 5 – Use QuickBooks Clean Install Tool to rectify the problem

QuickBooks Clean Install tool is a three-step solution which involves uninstalling, renaming installation folders, and again reinstalling QuickBooks. The process is as given below:

  1. Uninstall QuickBooks

  • Press Windows + R to open ‘Run’ command
  • Type ‘Control Panel’ and select OK
  • Select Programs & Features. If the Control Panel is in the ‘category view,’ then select ‘Uninstall a Program.’
  • Now from the programs list, choose ‘QuickBooks’ and then uninstall/change. The user needs to follow prompts for finishing the process.

     2. Download & RUN QuickBooks Clean Install Tool

  • First, download QuickBooks Clean Install Tool.exe file & save this to your desktop.
  • Now Open QuickBooks _clean_install_utility.exe
  • Choose ‘I accept on the license ’
  • Choose your QuickBooks Desktop version & choose Continue
  • Select OK when you the following message comes-‘ QuickBooks is ready for Clean Install’ and install this to the default directory.

     3. Perform a manual renaming of the QuickBooks Desktop Installation folders.

  • Utilize Windows Explorer to show the hidden files
  • Now rename every folder location listed for your Windows version.

Note: You can add ‘old’ or ‘damaged’ at the end of the folder name. This action will restrict QuickBooks from knowing the folder to make a new one.

The folder location is:

  • C:\ programdata\intuit\quickbooks(year)
  • C:\users\(current user)\appdata\local\intuit\QuickBooks (year)
  • C:\program files\intuit\quickbooks(year)
  • 64 bit version c:\program files (x86)\intuit\quickbooks (year)

  • Choose QBDBMgrN.exe, QBDBMgr.exe, QBCFMonitorService.exe, Qbw32.exe, and press ‘End ’
