This article will help you to set up QuickBooks Scan Manager and fix the common issues or errors such as QuickBooks Scan Manager not working that you may face while setting up or using it.

QuickBooks Scan Manager provides its users with the following benefits -

Steps to Set up QuickBooks Scan Manager

When you install a new scanner or when you are scanning documents for the very first time, you may require to set up the QuickBooks Scan Manager for QuickBooks Attached Documents.

Important: It is important that you use a TWAIN-compliant scanner with QuickBooks Scan Manager.

1. Make your Scan Profile

Step 1: From the QuickBooks icon bar, choose Docs to open the Doc Center.
Step 2: Press Scan a Document.
Step 3: Tap on the appropriate Scan Profile or press New to set up a new profile.
Step 4: Edit the name of your profile, then tap on Continue.
Step 5: Adjust the profile settings as appropriate then click on Save.

Note: It is important to understand that you cannot change the default destination folder. Your scanned documents will always save to the same folder where your company file (.QBW) is stored. In case you desire to amend your company file, you must change the location of the same.

2. Set up and test your QuickBooks Scan Manager

Step 1: Highlight your profile, then choose Select.
Step 2: In the Select Scanner window, click on the Scanner Setup Wizard.
Important: The Current Selection field should be responsible for listing your scanner. In case, you do not observe your scanner as listed, choose the Yes radio button and then tap on Next to download the new scanner database from Nuance.
Step 3: Click on the appropriate mode. Generally, this will be Normal Mode.
Step 4: Check the Perform Tests box, then choose Next.
Step 5: Choose the tests you want to run, then click on Next twice to start testing your Scanner.
Step 6: You should be able to notice the test page that you scanned in place of “Your scanner document here.” Check the Repeat this test in order to check all modes box, then click Next to continue testing in other available modes.

When you have chosen all your test modes appropriately, you may proceed to utilize your scanner with QuickBooks.

How to Troubleshoot QuickBooks Scan Manager Problems?

QuickBooks Scan Manager not working is a common problem that you may face. You may run into trouble while setting up QuickBooks Scan Manager or scanning and adding documents. While using the Scan Manager, a list of issues that can appear are given below -

Could not scan. TWAIN driver not found

This is one of the error messages that you may face. Proceed to the steps given below to fix it -

Step 1: Make sure you are using a TWAIN-compliant scanner.
Step 2: Now, external to the QB, you have to test your scanner to ensure it’s working correctly.
Step 3: If you can use it normally outside of QuickBooks, then your scanner is fine. If you cannot do that then it would be wise to say that the problem may exist in the scanner itself.

Error 281, 1

In case you get an Error 281, 1 while trying to scan with QuickBooks Scan Manager, perform the following solutions as given below -

Step 1: Delete your scan profile and make a new one.
Step 2: Amend User Account Settings in Windows.
Step 3: Repair QuickBooks and try scanning once again.
Step 4: Reinstall using a clean install, set up QuickBooks Scan Manager, and try again.
