QuickBooks Update Error 1601 occurs in the middle of the Installation update, and you have to stop due to an error message. Several factors might cause this error in your system. It is essential to know all the reasons and then move on to the solutions.

  • The Windows is infected with an endemic attack.
  • Downloaded a faulty file in QuickBooks
  • The Microsoft Installer is corrupted
  • No Permission there to operate on QuickBooks system or the Windows OS

Solutions to Fix QuickBooks Update Error 1601

Below given are some ways and solutions in which you can resolve the issue.

Solution 1

  • Go to start option and in the search window, type in ‘’
  • Now choose ‘services’ (local) & do a right-click on ‘Windows Installer’ & Properties’
  • Go to Properties and verify whether the option is ‘Disabled.’ If yes then click and choose the option ‘’
  • The user can press on ‘Service Status’ & opt it to ‘start’ to enable Windows
  • If the Error happened due to ‘Windows Installer,’ then this solution should clear out the problem.

If, however, the problem is persistent then move onto the next solution.

Solution 2

  • Go to start button in the Windows and fill in ‘cmd’ in the search option to show the ‘Command Prompt Option’.
  • Now type ‘msiexeec/unregister’ and Click ‘enter key’ and close the command prompt window.
  • Now log out of Windows & restart pc.
  • Install the program that leads to Windows Installer service error.

Solution 3

  • Navigate to start option & click Windows +R button
  • When in the command prompt, type ‘exe/unreg’ and press OK
  • You will see a pop-up dialog box message looking for confirmation. Click OK to confirm
  • Now again click Start and use Windows+R option
  • In the command prompt that comes up, fill in ‘exe/regserver’ and press OK
  • Now press on OK again once you have the confirmation

Check if the problem is rectified /resolved.

Solution 4

Lastly, you can Install the QuickBooks Diagnostic Tool to resolve the issue. The tool takes care of all problems related to .NET Framework, MSXML, and C++.

  • Start afresh and sign in as an ‘’
  • Open the browser in PC and look for QuickBooks Install Diagnostic tool
  • Press on the tool link and save the file in the Local folder
  • Now close background apps and double-click on QBInstall_Tool_v2.exe file. Click on ‘RUN’
  • A full scan will get underway and will perform a system repair for all the issues.
