Convert QuickBooks Enterprise to QuickBooks Online

QuickBooks Enterprise is full of accounting tools and features that allow easy working of businesses. It ensures enhanced Reporting and Finances, Well managed inventory, payroll and employees services and many more such features. However, QuickBooks Online provides many other features that are not there in any of the desktop versions. QBO provides automatic scheduling and sending transactions, attach documents, images, signatures, perform transactions using a mobile device, Audit log feature etc.

How to Convert QuickBooks Enterprise to Online?

Convert QuickBooks Enterprise to Online is a bit more complicated as compared to QB Pro or Premier conversion to QBO. It is not very straightforward, though we have tried to simplify it with the following steps.

Note: You need to have Internet Explorer 10 or higher version in your system.

  • Now Click on File
  • Got to Utilities
  • Copy Company File for QuickBooks Online

Note: The file will be saved with “.OE” extension. Save the file to your desktop for easy access.

Once the file is saved with “. OE” extension follow the below steps.

Import the QB Desktop file

  • Open IE 10 or IE 11
  • Navigate to QBO.intuit.com and sign in
  • Open the QBO file.
  • Select “the Gear”
  • Click- Import Desktop Data
  • Select QuickBooks for Windows 2005 & below.
  • Select Continue.
  • The Getting Ready screen will show requirements to upload the file.
  • Select Continue.
  • Check off -applicable boxes in the Import Checklist.
  • Select Continue.
  • Select “the Start Import”. (A warning message will come up that all data in QB Online file will be overwritten)
  • Select Continue.
  • Install -Active X control on the computer.
  • Select Install.
    NOTE: Active X control installation may prompt repetition of the above steps.
  • Once Active X control is installed, a Congratulations window will appear
  • Select Continue.
  • In QuickBooks for Windows 2005 or earlier you need to follow the instructions to export the file from QuickBooks Desktop or click the box “Yes”.
  • Select Continue.
  • Select Browse to go to your saved OE.qbw file.
  • Choose your saved OE.qbw file.
  • Click Open option
  • Choose the type of import you want to use
  • Select Continue.
  • If Admin password is there in the desktop file, enter it
  • File uploading starts with Toolbar moving towards 100%

NOTE: Click only “Continue” option to close this window, if you choose any other option the file uploading will stop.

  • Upload reaches 100% - select continue
  • The upload is completed and imported, however, you will be locked out of the file.
  • Select Sign Out of QBO
  • An email will come when the file is fully imported and is ready for use.

The file is usually ready to use within minutes. In worst-case scenarios it might take as long as 24 hours to complete this process.
