QuickBooks Error 15102 occurs while downloading a payroll or QuickBooks Desktop update. This issue can be fixed just by making sure that the required parameters do match to download and install the updates properly.

QuickBooks Error Code 15102 message is generally denoted as “Error 15102: Failed to reset update”. In this article, you will get to know what needs to be done in order to get the error fixed and successful updates are done.

What Causes QuickBooks Error 15102?

QuickBooks Payroll Error 15102 can occur due to the following reasons -

  • If you are not logged in as Windows and QuickBooks Administrator.
  • QuickBooks is never updated or you are not using the latest release.
  • QuickBooks Desktop is being used in the multi-user mode in a terminal services environment.
  • The Shared download option must have been turned on, but the location that has been specified for download is not accessible or not valid.

What are the Symptoms of QuickBooks Error 15102?

QuickBooks error 15102 produces the following symptoms –

  • QuickBooks Error Code 15102 appears on the screen.
  • User is unable to update QuickBooks.
  • Payroll cannot be updated.
  • QuickBooks freezes or hangs for some moments.
  • Windows is working very slowly.

Solutions to Fix QuickBooks Error 15102

To resolve QuickBooks Error Code 15102, follow the solutions given below –

Solution 1 - Use Single user mode

Change user mode of QuickBooks from multi-user to single user. To switch mode, you have to open the file menu in QuickBooks and choose the single-user mode.

Solution 2 - Verify the accuracy of mapped file location

  • First of all, you have to open the product info window by pressing the F2 key on the keyboard.
  • Note the mapped location path.
  • After that, you have to open the help menu in QuickBooks.
  • Choose Update QuickBooks.
  • Open the Options tab in order to authenticate the accuracy of the info in the download location.
  • If in case, you find that the shared download is turned on, then you have to make sure that the download location’s drive is the same one that is in the product information window.
  • In case, you find that the shared download is turned off, then you have to make sure that the download location’s directory has to be the same one as is the QB installation directory.
  • If in case, location is incorrect, change the location’s state.
  • Reverse the option for shared download, i.e., change Yes option with No if selected option is Yes and No option with Yes if the selected option is No, and after that choose Save.
  • Replace NO with YES If NO is selected for shared download and then click Save.
  • Select Close and again download latest tax table.

Solution 3 - Remap new letter

If in case, the download location is correct, resolve QuickBooks Error 15102 by remapping the drive to a new letter.

  • First of all, close QuickBooks company file.
  • Use a new letter to map your drive.
  • Open company files through a mapped drive.
  • Click on Help and after that choose Update QuickBooks.
  • Go to the Options tab.
  • Turn shared download on and off.
  • Now, ensure download location is making use of a new letter.
  • Choose Save and close application.

Solution 4 - Run QuickBooks as administrator

  • On your desktop, look for the QuickBooks icon.
  • Do a right-click on the QuickBooks icon.
  • From the options that appear, choose Run as administrator.
  • When UAC prompt appears, choose Continue.
  • Finally, update QuickBooks and check if QuickBooks Error 15102 is appearing.
