How to Register or Activate QuickBooks Desktop?

QuickBooks is a premier accounting software developed and marketed by Intuit. The product line is geared for small and medium-sized businesses and offer on-premises accounting apps and cloud-based versions. QuickBooks is user-friendly, easy to learn and efficient in goal achievement. To derive the best results, users should ensure correct software installation, required upgrades, and timely updates.

Once you have installed QuickBooks, the next step is to register or activate the QuickBooks in your Desktop. In the case of multiple copies of QB Desktop, each copy will have to be registered or activated.

Note: Before starting, ensure to have Internet Explorer 11 with TLS 1.2 enabled in your operating system. This is a mandatory requirement after May 31, 2018, for all QuickBooks Desktop editions as they require access to Intuit services.

QuickBooks Desktop for Windows

  • Open QuickBooks Desktop
  • Navigate to the Help menu
  • Select Activate QuickBooks
  • Follow the on-screen prompts and verify your details

QuickBooks Desktop for Mac

  • Go to Menu
  • Select Register QuickBooks
  • Enter the License number & Product number
  • Now select next
  • Click Register Online
  • Complete the on-screen instructions to finish the registration successfully.

Note: You would need the phone number, email address or zip code which was used while purchasing QuickBooks to verify your purchase

Older Versions of QuickBooks (preceding 2016 v)

Intuit has discontinued the older versions prior to the 2016 version, however, you can re-register if you are an existing user and the discontinued product was registered previously.

Problems you might face while registering or activating QuickBooks Desktop

You might encounter some issues while registering or activating QuickBooks Desktop. Hinder yourself from making these mistakes for quick registration. The prompts might occur in the following scenarios:

  • Information not accepted- In this scenario check again that the information you have entered is the same info you gave at the time of purchase.
  • Blank Screen or Error Message- Temporarily disable your anti-virus software.
